Leonid Basin, 56, lives in Farmington Hills and is a senior project engineer at GM Advanced Powertrain. He is origi- nally from Belarus and is known among his friends as the man with the amazing memory, which, he says, he learned from another game: chess. Basin has been playing chess since he was 7. Today, he is an International Chess Master with the World Chess Federation and has been known to take on 10 play- ers at a time — and beat them all.
