While Spring and Summer are the high season for
home sales, Winter can be a buyer's market. If you don't
mind a smaller pool of homes for sale or moving around
the holidays, Winter might be a good time for you to house
shop.
Buying a house in the Winter means less competition
and more leverage. There are fewer homes for sale in the
Winter. Sellers in the Winter are often motivated which
can be a plus to the home buyer. Also, the low number of
potential buyers also means you have more time to make
your decision.
Viewing homes in the winter also lets you see how it
holds up to the weather. Did you feel cold while looking
through the house? Is there a functioning heating system
and hot water? Are the windows letting in drafts?
Another advantage of buying a home in the off-season
is the greater availability of industry professionals. Real
estate agents will have fewer clients and more time
to focus on your home search. Lenders will be more
accessible for questions and assistance.

What home improvement projects will
give the most value to my home?

Think curb appeal if you want the most financial
return on your home improvement dollars. Here are a few
suggestions to help you get great curb appeal and get
noticed!
Replace Siding. Replacing old siding with new siding.
Your home's appearance will look fresh and good quality
siding will last 30 years or more.
Replace Front Door. Replace an old front door with a
newer steel model. It will look great and also be energy
efficient.
Replace or Clean Deck. A deck is a cost effective way
to increase your living space and have the rear of your
home looking great. If you have a deck in good shape,
clean and seal it to preserve.
Replace Windows. Replacement windows are a style
upgrade that saves energy. If you are not quite ready to
replace, install weather stripping to your existing windows
and it will keep out the drafts.
