"better Detroit:'
Further validating a hopeful out-
look is the fact that subsequent to
the publication of the JN articles, it
was announced that the $350 million
is officially available.
There are two additional reasons
affording real hope that this news
means we are on the way to help
in a meaningful manner with our
troubled venues:
• Prior federal funding for neigh-
borhoods was managed by citizen
committees, not business leaders as
outlined in the current plan.
• The taking of property has legal
concerns that might impede imple-
mentation of the intended use of the
funds; however, the well-qualified
Alan Ackerman belies that concern.
As outlined in the "Is It Doable"
story, Dan Gilbert and Ackerman
stand as reliable persona for validat-
ing that this time it can be done.

Kudos To Moishe House,
But Don't Forget Detroit
Regarding "On The Move" (Oct. 10,
page 1), while it saddens me that the
Moishe House will no longer be on
East Ferry Street, I am enthusiastic
about the opening of a Moishe House
in Royal Oak. With a different loca-
tion comes the ability to reach out to
a new community and impact even
more young Jewish adults.
I urge the new residents to become
involved in the Royal Oak commu-
nity while still maintaining connec-
tions in Detroit.
Similarly, while young adults may
prefer to flock to Royal Oak, it is
important to remember Detroit.
Detroit is more than baseball games
and concerts. There is a richness in
the city begging to be explored.
I wish Josh, Josh, Jordan and Ben
the absolutely best in the year to
come; I have no doubt that MHRO
will be a fantastic experience.
B'hatzlacha! [To your success].

StandWithUs Seminar
Fights Bias Against Israel
The "Effective Letter Writing"
seminar hosted by StandWithUs-
Michigan on Sunday morning, Oct.
6, gave the attendees a terrific, easy-
to-understand and extraordinarily
useful set of tools to counteract the
bias, demonization, double stan-

dards, and delegitimization of Israel
in the press and the assault on Israel
and the Jewish people. The program
presented techniques and strategies
for supporting Israel in letters and
emails to the media and government
officials.
I congratulate and thank SWU-MI
president Barbara Moretsky, pro-
gram chairman Stuart Israel, letter-
writing chair Harry Onickel and Julie
Blair, the presentation coordinator.

Corrections
• The story "Library Rededication
At Holocaust Center" (Oct. 10,
page 51), about the naming of the
Gayle Sweetwine Saini Memorial
Library of the Jewish Genealogical
Society (JGS), wrongly implied
that the library is the same as the
Holocaust Memorial Center (HMC)
library. The JGS library is a separate
entity housed at the HMC. For
information about the Holocaust
Memorial Center Zekelman Family
Campus Library Archive, visit www.
holocaustcenter.org/library.

FULFILLMENT

circulationdesk@thejewishnews.com
Customer Service Manager:
Zena Hosley

• A caption with "On The Move"
(Oct. 10, page 8) should have
read: Ben Goutkovitch, Jordan
Rosenbaum, Josh Stewart and Josh
Fishman outside Moishe House
Royal Oak.

• In "Passion For History" (Oct. 10,
page 26), Lana Pollack was a state
senator, not a U.S. senator.

• The story "BBYO Empowerment"
(Oct. 3, page 22) should have said
BBYO's Building Entrepreneurship
program is supported by a Jewish
Women's Foundation grant.
