Seniors With Style

Why is an AFHU Hebrew
University Gift Annuity
different from all others?

Women of Meer model outfits
to benefit JSL auxiliary.

A

group of well-dressed fash-
ionistas showcased the latest
styles on a runway at Meer
Apartments of Jewish Senior Life (JSL).
Ten residents, along with then-
administrator, Marcia Mittelman,
modeled outfits that included crinkled,
flowing blouses and mesh jackets, with
accessories of vivid floral scarves, over-
sized purses and trendy jewelry from
the Meer Boutique at the JSL Auxiliary
and Meer Fashion Show late last month.
The auxiliary runs the boutique
as well as gift shops in Fleischman
Residence/Blumberg Plaza and Danto
Health Care, both in West Bloomfield.
All proceeds support JSL.
The show was planned by former
Meer program coordinator Melanie
Gorman, auxiliary coordinator Judy
Dunn of Novi and Mittelman.
"The models — including Meer
resident Joyce Dorfman, who helped
plan the show — were so excited to be
in the show that many of them came
down hours early to get ready and to
enjoy the hustle and bustle associated
with setting up," Gorman said.
"Professional make-up artist Sharon
Eaton donated her time and talents to

do the models' makeup."
Auxiliary members who helped out
with the event include Beverly Bennett,
Rose Cooper, Jackie Sorkin and Ruthie
Katz, all of West Bloomfield.
To the music of pianist Don Nadel,
the show's models were escorted to the
runway by Meer resident Frank Machlis
and Meer employee Jay Miller of Novi.
JSL auxiliary president Elaine Beresh
welcomed the standing-room-only
crowd. JSL auxiliary board member Jill
Margolick served as announcer.
Proceeds from a raffle will help sup-
port the Meer Resident Council, which
uses the funds to pay for live entertain-
ment offered at Meer.
Approximately $600 was raised dur-
ing a post-show sale of accessories and
clothing from the boutique.
"The fashion show was a huge
success on all accounts because the
residents, guests and models had a
wonderful time, and we raised funds
to help support our building and our
agency:' Gorman said. "We look for-
ward to having more fashion shows in
conjunction with the JSL Auxiliary in
the future:'

It drives the next
generation of
technology.
