PH Mendelson's Atlantic Resort
in South Haven was one of many
elegant vacation spots that lined the
coast of Southwest Michigan.

Tour Historic Resorts,
Shuls Of S.W. Michigan
Throughout the 1930s to 1950s, Jewish
vacationers flocked to the shores of
Southwest Michigan. Tens of thousands
would don bathing suits and cat-eyed
sunglasses and head to the coastline,
the Catskills of the Midwest.
Dozens of resorts and hotels offered
respite where vacationers could dance
under the stars, listen to orchestras
and dance bands, eat kosher food, play
cards and even find places to worship.
