Building Community

Initiative brings Chaldean, Jewish
entrepreneurs together for forum.

E

ntrepreneurs and young pro-
fessionals from the Chaldean
and Jewish communities got
together Oct. 1 at the Chaldean News/
Jewish News Building Community
Initiative-sponsored Entrepreneurship
Forum at the College for Creative
Studies Taubman Center in Detroit.
Attendees enjoyed cocktails, hors
d'oeuvres and networking before sit-
ting down to dynamic presentations
by Doug Neal of Michigan eLab and
Michael Finney, president and CEO of
the Michigan Economic Development
Corp.
Finney told attendees about the
various economic programs available
at the MEDC and the resources avail-
able to help entrepreneurs grow their

businesses. He also announced that
the MEDC will be launching a micro-
lending program within the next few
months to help small businesses with
fewer than five employees. After his
presentation, Finney took questions
from the audience.
This is the third year of the
Building Community initiative. The
Entrepreneurship Forum was co-
chaired by Anmar Sarafa of Steward
Capital Management and Richard
Nodel of Nodel Parks. Event sponsors
were Tech Town, Bank of America,
Beaumont Health System, Henry Ford
Health System, Lawrence Tech, Meijer,
Oakland Community College, Walled
Lake School District and Wayne State
University.
