Sarcasm By Critic Of
Emerson Is Unjustified
I am curious as to what the letter writer
("Emerson Peddles Hysteria About
`Muslim Conspiracies:" Sept. 26, page 5)
reads that leads him to the conclusions
and sarcasm.
He needs to wade through, as I have,
the seminal documents of Islam, such as
the Koran (e.g., translation by Marmaduke
Pickthall), translations of the Hadith
(sayings and practices of Mohammed),
and The Reliance of the Traveler (man-
ual of Shariah or Islamic law).
And, as he reads conflicting passag-
es in the Koran, he should be aware of
the principle of "abrogation" promul-
gated by Islamic authorities, i.e. that
later passages abrogate earlier.
Finishing that, he ought to read the
Muslim Brotherhood's credo: "Allah
is our objective; the Koran is our law,
the Prophet is our leader; jihad is our
way; and dying in the way of Allah is
the highest of our aspirations."
Then he should go to the Web
and search for the Brotherhood (in
America) documents revealed by the
government in the July 2007 trial of
the Holy Land Foundation for Relief
and Development (HLF).
Contrary to the writer's sarcasm,
the Brotherhood is indeed "diaboli-
cal." Look at what the Brotherhood
and Islamists are doing to Christians
in Pakistan, Egypt, Syria, etc. This

would be done to Jews if any were left
in those countries.
There is no equivalency between
the Koran, et. al., and The Protocols of
the Elders of Zion. The Protocols are a
fiction from czarist Russia, while the
others are genuine documents.
The letter writer asks if there is
any fear a caliphate and Shariah will
become the law here. I don't know
about the caliphate, but yes, indeed,
for Shariah. Judges have already used/
referenced Shariah in their deci-
sions — at least 15 trial court cases,
and 12 appellate court cases; check
the Internet for those cases. Both
Emerson and Sklar are spot on.
Meanwhile, the Obama administra-
tion's feckless policy has produced
chaos and terrorism in Libya and
Tunisia, supported the rise of the
Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt and did
little to stem the acceleration of nucle-
ar weapon development in Iran.
Some 75 years ago, British Prime
Minister Neville Chamberlain met
with Adolf Hitler and returned waving
a piece of paper saying, "I believe it is
peace in our time."
I half expect in the near future
Secretary of State John Kerry
or President Barack Obama will
announce "no Iranian nuclear weap-
ons in our time."

JCRC Keeps A Main Focus
On Pro-Israel Advocacy
Arthur Horwitz was correct in stat-
ing in his Publisher's Letter in the
IN's September Chai Israel magazine
that Jewish Detroiters have a special
relationship with Israel (page 4). The
Detroit Jewish Community Relations
Council (JCRC) recognizes this and
maintains Israel advocacy as one of its
main focuses.
Our efforts include educating the
media, lobbying members of Congress,
speaking out for Israel with op-eds and
letters, training local and campus Israel
advocates and assisting Israel's Midwest
consulate in its hasbarah [public rela-
tions] work. We view the Detroit Jewish
News as a valued partner, and we invite
local pro-Israel volunteers to join with
us.

BBYO And Campus Hillel
Lauded For Their Roles
I feel terrible that my letter
"Supporting BBYO Ensures Jewish
And Israel Survival" (Sept. 5, page 5)
was misunderstood by the MSU Hillel
leadership and possibly your readers
("MSU Hillel Is Dynamic In Support Of
Israel;' Sept. 19, page 5).
Regarding the letter from MSU Hillel
board members, I feel that my letter
supporting BBYO was misunderstood.
I did mention that Hillel, StandWithUs,
AIPAC and others are doing the best
they can with our youth at the uni-
versities. I have always supported
the Hillel-The Foundation of Jewish
Campus Life in Washington, D.C., and
in the past, I have contributed much
more to the MSU Hillel program than
to BBYO.
When BBYO Director Eric Adelman
told me they are turning away many
Jewish children from joining BBYO
because of lack of funds, that prompted
me to write my letter to the Jewish
News for more community support for
BBYO. My point was that we must start
getting our youth involved with BBYO
to instill more Jewish values and the
love and support of Israel before they
get to the university.
I did not mean to diminish the great
and important work MSU Hillel is
doing with our Jewish college students.
We need to support both BBYO and
Hillel.
