Ex-Federation Exec To
Sit On JN Foundation's
Honorary Board

as the CEO of the
Jewish Federation of
Greater Los Angeles and the CEO of
the Jewish Federation of Greater San
Francisco, has been voted to a seat on
the honorary board of the Detroit
Jewish News Foundation.
The Foundation's operating board
took this action at its Sept. 24 meet-
ing.
Feinstein is a senior vice president
and investment counselor for Capital
Group Private Client Services and
served as CEO of GrantConnect fol-
lowing his 18 years of at the helm of
the San Francisco, Los Angeles and
Detroit Federations.
During his tenure in Detroit,
Feinstein played a key role in help-
ing to transition the ownership of
the Detroit Jewish News from the
Slomovitz family to a group headed
by then-Baltimore Jewish Times
Publisher Charles A. Buerger and
Editor Gary Rosenblatt.
Feinstein, who resides in the Bay
Area, is a founding board member
of the Gastric Cancer Foundation
and serves on the boards of the
Osher Center for Integrative
Medicine at University of California-
San Francisco, the University of
California-Berkeley School of Social
Welfare and the Arthur Szyk Society.
The Detroit Jewish News
Foundation honorary board is chaired
by Eugene Applebaum, Mandell
L. Berman, the Hon. Avern Cohn,
Michael Steinhardt and A. Alfred
Taubman.

IRP Slates October
Lecture Miniseries
The Jewish Community Center of
Metropolitan Detroit's IRP (Institute
for Retired Professionals) will hold
its fall miniseries on four Fridays in
October, 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m., at the
JCC in Oak Park. The theme for this
year's series is "Hot Topics."
The series is open to the public and
is free for IRP members, and $5 per
speaker ($18 for the entire series) for
non-IRP members.

FedEd Course Examines
Jewish-Israel Relationship
FedEd, Federation's lifelong learning
department, is offering a new course,
"Engaging Israel: Foundations for a
New Relationship" 7-9 p.m. on nine
Mondays beginning Oct. 21 at the
Max M. Fisher Federation Building in
Bloomfield Township.
Going deeper than politics or advo-
cacy, "Engaging Israel" will reframe
the discussion about the enduring
significance of the State of Israel for
contemporary Jews worldwide.
Each session will be a combina-
tion of text-based learning and video
lectures by scholars from the Shalom
Hartman Institute. Rabbi Steven
Rubenstein of Congregation Beth
Ahm in West Bloomfield will facili-
tate.
Tuition is $95. The course is
underwritten by the Henry and Alice
Thumin Institute of Judaic Studies at
Beth Ahm and is cosponsored by the
Jewish Community Relations Council.

Michigan-Israel Business
Bridge Names New Officers
Hannan Lis was re-elected presi-
dent of the Michigan Israel Business
Bridge (MIBB). Also installed
were vice-presidents Alan Brilliant
(Ann Arbor), Robyn Lederman
(West Bloomfield), Mark Milgrom
(Farmington Hills) and Hal Ostrow
(Grand Rapids).
The treasurer is Joseph Ben-Gal
(Farmington Hills) and the secretary
is Steven Cole (Bloomfield Hills).
Executive board members also
include Lisa Rosenbaum (Bloomfield
Hills) and David Weaver (Bloomfield
Hills).
Joining as new members of the
board of directors are Ken Glickman
(Lansing), Yoav Grauer (Haifa,
Israel) and David Leo (Rochester).
Re-elected to the board are Michael
Fried (Ann Arbor), Stanley Meretsky
(West Bloomfield) and Mark Milgrom
