The story of Adam
and Eve is a classic
boy meets girl story.
But it's never that
easy. Did Eve deceive
Adam? Did Adam dis-
honor God? And what
should we make of the
talking serpent? Was
the fruit an apple or a
fig and why couldn't
they eat from the Tree
of Knowledge?

• Sunday, Nov. 3: Binding of Isaac

Abraham and Sarah prayed for a
son to no avail. Then, when Abraham
was 99 and Sarah was 90, three angels
appeared to them to announce that
Sarah would give birth to Isaac. Soon
after, God commanded Abraham to
bind Isaac as a burnt offering. Why
would God do this and why would
Abraham acquiesce? And where is
Sarah in this scenario?
The dialogues will be held from
4-5:30 p.m. Oct. 6 and Nov. 3 at the
Maple Theater, 4135 W. Maple Road,
Bloomfield Township. The cost is $15
for one lecture or $25 for the series.
Registrations are highly encouraged.

Attend A Birth-Day Party For
3 New Groups Aiding Families

C

elebrate at the "Birth"day
party of three new organiza-
tions — JBaby Detroit!, the
Bubble Club and the Detroit Baby
Drive — from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Sept.
29, at the Friendship Circle in West
Bloomfield. Each organization targets
young families in the Metro Detroit
area, acting as a resource while families
navigate the first years with children.
JBaby Detroit!, a collaboration
of Federation's Alliance for Jewish
Education and NEXTGen Detroit,
connects, engages and inspires Jewish
parents and parents-to-be in the
Detroit community. From bump, birth
and beyond, JBaby Detroit! offers
prenatal, infant and toddler classes,
parenting and family programs, and
an online Facebook community.
JBaby Detroit! partnered with the
Bubble Club to create an opportu-
nity for parents, caregivers and their
babies to play, learn and grow with a
Jewish twist.
The Bubble Club offers devel-
opmentally appropriate classes for
babies. Its mission is to provide
support and education for fami-
lies, targeting those with children

up to age 3. Classes begin this fall
and will be held at different loca-
tions, including Temple Beth
El in Bloomfield Township, the
Jewish Community Center in West
Bloomfield, Congregation Shaarey
Zedek in Southfield and Adat Shalom
Synagogue in Farmington Hills.
Detroit Baby Drive serves the
Jewish community by collecting and
distributing new and gently used
baby items to families. They also
provide "Bubbie Basics Bundles" of
assorted baby essentials available for
short-term loan to anyone entertain-
ing little visitors. Detroit Baby Drive
was granted $8,000 from the Jewish
Women's Foundation to help spread
the word about this new resource to
the community.
Cost for the event is $18 per family,
including carnival games, face paint-
ing, arts and crafts, Star Trax dance
party, visit from Elmo, snow cones,
cotton candy, a foam pit and more.
Activities are geared toward pre-
school-aged children, though children
of all ages are welcome!
