ELEVEN?! children in the Jewish faith. Robin, now company president, worked for the Union for Reform Judaism and Hillel after college before joining the business. "I loved that work. It really fulfilled me in a lot of ways, but eventually I realized that what I'm most passionate about is creating powerful experiences that help people grow and learn, and that our family business would allow me to do that in even more creative ways:' she says. Robin is active in Temple Beth Emeth in Ann Arbor. She is on the Strategic Planning Committee and chairs the Youth Engagement Committee. "I really see a lot of connections between what we do and the values of Judaism in terms of really asking questions, engaging and learning all the time she says. "Judaism holds learning as such a core value, and that's what we're all about. It's not just letting something wash over you, but really engaging with it." Joan adds, "For example, our trips to Israel are quite intellectual. Our Israeli guide is deep think- ing and very open to conversation about what is going on in Israel today. Our guests tell us it's a stimu- lating and contemporary experi- ence:' Journeys International keeps its tour groups to no more than 10 or 12 people. "We want our guides to show preference to our clients:' Will says. "We want the guide to get as much out of the experience as the client. That sense of intimacy is important. That's the neat magic and synergy of it:' Adds Robin: "It's important that the group doesn't get so big that it overwhelms the environ- ment. Larger groups get consumed with talking to each other and the dynamics on the bus. It's important the group is small enough that the focus is external:' Jewish music will be part of Journeys International's Jamboree weekend. A gala dinner for guests and partners will be held at Genesis of Ann Arbor. The community resource building on Packard Road, built through a partnership between St. Clare of Assisi Episcopal Church and Temple Beth Emeth, features a cross and Star of David side by side. "To use the social hall in that building for this party is such great symbolism," Joan says. "This is all about bringing together people across cultures:' Details about all Jamboree events are available at www.journeys. travel. GUT TEN IS SUCH A NICE ROUND NUM3E9.
