Mr. Freedman was the retired owner of Future Assurance Insurance Agency. Newton attended Central High School and Wayne State University. He met the love of his life, Selma Silverman, when they were 13 years old, through their par- ents, Joseph and Bertha Freedman, and Harry and Mary Silverman. They all were members of the Pinsker Progressive Aid Society. He played the drums and had a band called Red Lewis and the Five Pennies — named "Red Lewis" because of Newt's red hair.
