Head To Toe: A Body Of Work

M

any years ago, the poet Walt
Whitman wrote, "I sing the
body electric" Since then,
songsmiths have dedicated works to
many parts of the body, electric or
otherwise.
A whole Broadway show
was dedicated to hair. That
was also the concern of a
featured song in that show.
After you consider
"Raindrops Keep Falling
on My Head" are you old
enough to remember,
"You've got the cutest little
baby face"? (This was, of
course, long before the days
of the Goth look, piercings
and other oddities.)
Still lingering on the face,
consider "Lips of An Angel."
And since the eyes are the
windows of the soul, there have been
such offerings as "Brown-Eyed Girl"
"I Can't Take My Eyes Off of You" and
"For Your Eyes Only" If you enjoyed the
show Jersey Boys, then you fondly recall
Frankie Valli's "My Eyes Adored You"

"Sunshine on My Shoulder" was a
popular ditty for a while. There was
also "Looking Over My Shoulder" (I
will not shoulder the blame for those
who think such lyrics are corny. I am
establishing use, not praise.)
The inner body was a con-
cern for those who penned
"My Heart Will Go On"
as well as "Your Cheating
Heart" The former will not
be as well remembered as
the movie it was done for,
Titanic; the latter continues
to be a favorite of country-
western folks.
The Beatle-maniacs (is
that really the name for
the Beatle Mania folks?)
will fondly recall "I Want
To Hold Your Hand" There
are, I am sure, some con-
trol freaks who know all the words
to "Under My Thumb" by the Rolling
Stones. Abba sang of "Slipping
Through My Fingers"
I wonder if a diet-program guru
might adopt as a theme song "Hips Don't

Lie"? No, it might not work after all.
Romantics among us might enjoy a
reprise of "On a Bended Knee" It does
have more of a gospel nature, but cre-
ative folks can turn anything to their
needs, no?
Well, if you really want to "Get
Physical" just take the advice of KC
and the Sunshine Band and "Shake
Your Booty"

Originally from New Jersey, Leora
Tapper married and moved to the
Detroit area near her husband's
family. Leora and Mark, exploring
opportunities, joined a Federation
group of young couples and were
introduced to different aspects of
the local community. One session,
Hebrew Free Loan Executive Director
David Contorer took an unusual
approach, and got Leora's attention.
"He gave us case studies of loan
situations, we did some role playing
as applicants and Board members,
and I was truly intrigued," Leora
said. "We don't have this in New
Jersey. I was impressed that HFL
is so hands-on. Also, when they
aren't the right solution, they try to
offer somewhere else to go. That
speaks well of the organization
and the people who drive it."
Leora is HFL's new NEXTGen
liaison, and was surprised she
would be working as a Board
member. "For me to be able to
help someone directly is gratifying,"
Leora said.
One thing that sticks with Leora
is the concept of money recycling
from donors to borrowers and into
new loans. "After a donation is used
by someone who needs it, they start
to pay back the loan and the money
can be used by more people forever.
What a great use of money."
