metro >> here's to Holy Smokes WADL TV 38 owner shows off his iconic Batman vehicles. S ome people call Kevin Adell eccen- tric, but to those who know him well, Adell is someone who — once he sets his sights on something — is rarely, if ever, deterred. Adell, who was raised Jewish, ironi- cally happens to be the owner and CEO of the WORD Network, which is the largest African American religious television net- work in the world. He also owns WADL TV 38. Adell also loves to collect things. Among those things are some pretty expensive cars and gadgets. In 2006, Adell purchased one of the origi- nal five Batmobiles, which was designed by the legendary godfather of all Batmobiles, George Barris. Aden's Batmobile is known as "the Outlaw:' This particular Batmobile was built nearly 50 years ago and appeared in the original television series starring Adam West. Most recently, it was seen in the Mark Wahlberg movie Like A Rock Star. Adell also owns one of the original Batmobile cycles. In both cases, if you think you have seen these icons being driven around town, you're definitely not seeing things. When the weather is right, Adell will take these nifty vehicles for a spin, often times with family members in tow. With rumors flying that Detroit could be the backdrop for the next Batman movie, Adell wants to offer up "the Outlaw" to be used in the film should it be shot here. "It would be great kick to see my car used in such a widely seen movie. I'd let the film- makers use it for free if they asked," Adell said. While Adell will not disclose what he paid for these legendary road machines, others like it have sold for millions in recent years. "I like the offbeat and the unusual. To be able to have the means to purchase and enjoy a part of Americana is fun," Adell said. ❑ We are a custom roaster and packer offering private label, including food service programs and bulk.
