were cases of harassment/threats, and
440 involved vandalism.
"Although we don't wish for hate
crime incidents to occur, it creates
teachable moments for us," Weaver
said. "It ends up being a blessing in
disguise because it allows this type of
bias and prejudice to be addressed.
"This generation is far removed
from World War II and Hitler," he
explained. "If you are outside the
Jewish community, you are not receiv-
ing an in-depth educational program
about this. Kids know it's bad, but
they don't realize the degree of how

ADL-Michigan Region staffers also
have met with BBYO, synagogue youth
groups and MSU Hillel about imple-
menting A Campus of Difference with
these organizations.
"We're excited to discuss this pro-

of our campuses," said Cindy Hughey,
MSU Hillel executive director. MSU
Hillel oversees HCAM (Hillel Campus
Alliance of Michigan) that supports
Hillels at nine other Michigan cam-

give students the tools to effectively
respond to any type of situation."

for justice for all people.
"We don't just come in, do the
training and disappear," Budaj said.
"We are a resource and are here to
help at all times. We are truly there for
anyone who reaches out." @
