Prime Minister Netanyahu hailed the BIU Medical School, located in the historic city of
Safed, at its groundbreaking ceremony in November 2012.

After only its first year of operation, Bar-Ilan University's (BIU) Medical
School already is strengthening medical services in the Galilee.

Proactive initiatives:

Six Galilee hospitals are receiving
infrastructure upgrades to provide
high-level facilities for the Medical
School's 14 current experimental
scientists — most of whom are
Israelis returning home from presti-
gious faculty positions at Harvard,
Yale, NIH and other top institutions.
These scientists are partnering with
local clinicians to provide advanced
medical care to patients in the North.

Of the initial class of 124, 40
students have been assigned to
work at the Clalit Health Services
HMO, where they will assist in
providing patient education
and basic medical care.
Students are also volunteering at
Magen David Adom, a home for
older adults, and a Yad LaBanim
center for families of fallen
military personnel.

Public health awareness programs
have been initiated in numerous
Galilee community centers.
Innovative projects, such as the
School's Teddy Bear Hospital, are
helping to reduce anxiety among
hundreds of preschoolers about
medical care in general and hospitals
in particular.
