He was a compassionate physician, talent- ed violinist, beloved hus- Rottenberg band, father, c. 1942 grandfather and great-grandfather. Born in Baltimore, Md., in 1914, Dr. Rottenberg married his high-school sweetheart, Adeline Sax, in 1937 and graduated from Wayne State University School of Medicine in 1938, first in his class. After serving in the military as a physician in the Army Air Force during World War II, he practiced general medicine and surgery in Detroit for 45 years. Classical music, opera, golf and bridge were his lifelong passions. He bestowed loving attention on his family, friends and patients, whose lives were forever touched by him He is survived by his loving wife, Adeline; his son, David Rottenberg and daughter-in-law, Rochelle Rottenberg; his daugh- ter, Margery Melchiode and his son-in-law, Gerald Melchiode; his granddaughters, Elizabeth Rottenberg, Catherine Rottenberg and her husband Neve Gordon, Nancy Ives and her husband Joshua Ives, and Amy Rochow and her husband Todd Rochow; his great-grandchildren, Ari and Aviv Gordon-Rottenberg and Ava Rochow; many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his six siblings and his playwright daughter, Lynne Alvarez.
