r. Morton Lazar of West
Bloomfield celebrated his 100th
birthday, happy to be healthy
in mind and body, on Aug. 21. He enjoyed
an evening of feasting and partying with
his wife, Hecky; sisters and brother-in-law,
Alice Cantor, Dorothy and Sam Essick of
California; children, grandchildren, nieces
and nephews and lots of wonderful friends.

ancy and Phillip Bortman of
/ West Bloomfield are thrilled
to announce the engagement
of their son Brian Bortman to Lucy Kahn,
daughter of Wendy and Danny Kahn of
Highland Park, Ill.
Lucy earned her bachelor's degree in art
history and Jewish studies from Washington
University in St. Louis, Mo., and a mas-
ter's degree in elementary education from
Northwestern University. She is a kinder-
garten teacher at Solomon Schechter Day
School of Metropolitan Chicago.
Brian earned a bachelor's degree in
accounting from Michigan State University
and a master's degree in accounting from Oakland University. He is a CPA and
portfolio manager in the finance group at Invenergy LLC in Chicago.
A November wedding is planned in Chicago, where the couple reside.

joyed to announce the engagement
of their daughter Jennifer Eve to
Samson Albert Maxbauer, son of Terri and
Rob Roth, and Leo and Jeanne Maxbauer.
Jennifer earned a bachelor's degree in
education from the University of Michigan
in Ann Arbor and earned her master's
degree in intellectual disabilities and autism
spectrum disorder from Teachers College,
Columbia University in New York. She teach-
es special education at Walnut Creek Middle
School in Walled Lake.
Sam earned his bachelor's degree in
political science from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and earned his
M.B.A. and master of science and accounting from Michigan State University in
Lansing. He is employed at Pricewaterhouse Coopers in Detroit.
An October wedding is planned at Congregation Shaarey Zedek in Southfield.
