DOROTHEA BECKER, 87, of West
Bloomfield, died Aug. 15, 2013.
Prior to retirement, she was an elemen-
tary school teacher in the Pontiac School
District.
Mrs. Becker is survived by her daughter,
Rachel Becker of West Bloomfield; son and
daughter-in-law, Daniel and Naomi Becker
of Israel; grandchildren, Yochai Becker,
Tamir and Gal Becker, Amitai Becker,
Amon Becker, Emily Shipley, Eric Shipley
and Andrew Shipley.
Mrs. Becker was the beloved wife of the
late Dr. Abraham Becker.
Interment was at Clover Hill Park
Cemetery. Contributions may be made

JAY RICHARD EPSTEIN, 75, of
Farmington Hills, died Aug. 19, 2013.
He was a retired accountant.
Mr. Epstein is survived by his most
wonderful and loving sister, Rheda Zamler;
nieces, Sandi Mellin and Marcia Saperstein,
great-nieces and great-nephews, Irika
Mellin, Lauren and Derek Partovich,
Chad and Adrienne Saperstein and
Rodney Saperstein; great-great-nephews,
Blake Morton Partovich and Cole Marty
Partovich.
He was the loving brother of the late
Arlene Levine; dear brother-in-law of the
late Irving Bernstein; and dear uncle of the
late Martin Mellin.
Interment was at Nusach Harie.

MIRIAM BORTMAN,
96, of Los Angeles, Calif.,
formerly of Phoenix,
Ariz., and Detroit, died
Aug. 17, 2013.
Miriam and her hus-
band, Erwin started their
life together in Utica
Bortman
and lived there for many
years while Erwin prac-
ticed veterinary medicine. They traveled
throughout much of the world together,
visiting Africa, Japan, India and much of
Europe. Miriam kept up with her many
friends in Utica and elsewhere through her
long life.
She is survived by her sons and daughter-
in-law, David Bortman of Los Angeles,
Michael and Lianne Halfon Bortman, also
of Los Angeles; grandchildren, Jessica
Bortman and Michael Andrews, Nicholas
Bortman, Ethan Berger; great-grandson,
Oliver Andrews.
Mrs. Bortman was the beloved wife for
57 years of the late Dr. Erwin Bortman.

JEFFREY D. FLACK, 55, of Plymouth, died
Aug. 11, 2013.
He is survived by his mother. Marilyn
Flack of Southfield; son, Joshua Flack;
brother-in-law, Fred Slabiak, and sister-in-
law, Patty Flack; many loving nieces, neph-
ews, other family members and friends.
Mr. Flack was the brother of the late
Arthur Flack and the late Elinor Slabiak.

Adat Shalom Memorial Park Cemetery in

NEWTON FREEDMAN,
92, of Farmington Hills,
died Aug. 11, 2013.
A retired owner of an
insurance agency, Mr.
Freedman was a 32nd
degree Mason and a

member for 75 years. He

was a highly decorated
Army Air Corps veteran
of World War II, having received six Bronze
Stars.

Mr. Freedman is survived by his daugh-
ters and sons-in-law, Fran and Michael
Goran of Bloomfield Hills, Barbara and
David Singer of Raleigh, N.C.; grandchil-
dren, Jill and Adam Organ, Lori and Matt
Oliveira, Carly and Brodrick Dunn; great-
grandchildren, Zoe Elyse Organ, Macy
Hannah Organ, Maya Daisy Oliveira, Isaac
River Oliveira, Madison Simone Dunn.
Mr. Freedman was the beloved husband
for 68 years of the late Selma Freedman;
loving son of the late Bertha and the late
Joseph Freedman; dear son-in-law of the
late Mary and the late Harry Silverman.

were held at Hebrew Memorial Park,
Pinsker Section. Arrangements by Hebrew
Memorial Chapel.

RONALD D. GLADSTONE, DVM, 47, of
Roswell, Ga., died Aug. 11, 2013.
He was born in Lansing on Dec. 17, 1965,
the son of Marvin and Maureen Gladstone.
He was a graduate of Michigan State
University School of Veterinary Medicine.
He was preceded in death by his mother,
Maureen Gladstone in 1998. Surviving are
his father, Marvin P. (Sandra) Gladstone of
Albuquerque, N.M.; sisters, Kim Gladstone
(Jeff Shapiro) of Haslett, Kari Gladstone
of Denver, Colo., Alexis Gladstone of
Chicago; stepsister, Melissa (Brad) Raisher;
niece, Robbye Raisher of Albuquerque;
uncle, Harold Gladstone, and aunt, Evelyn
Gladstone.
A graveside service was held at Evergreen
Cemetery in Lansing with Rabbi Amy
Bigman officiating. Contributions may
be made to MSU School of Veterinary
Medicine or to Congregation Shaarey
Zedek, East Lansing, Flower Fund.

BETTY C. GOLD, 89, of West Bloomfield,
died Aug. 15, 2013.
She is survived by her daughters and
son-in-law, Dianne and Stanley Siegelbaum

Bloomfield and Paula Mahler of Ann Arbor;
sister, Rita Keywell of West Bloomfield;
grandchildren, Lesley (Andy) Gutman,

IRVING E. GOLDMAN,
90, of Franklin, died Aug.
13, 2013.
After attending
Central High School
and Michigan State
University, he served in
the U.S. Army Infantry
and saw combat in the
European theater. Mr.
Goldman, his brother and father operated
Grant Southern Iron and Metal Co. for 40
years, one of the largest scrap metal pro-
cessing companies in the U.S.
He was a Humanist Jew, an accomplished
equestrian, philanthropist and devoted
friend and family man.
Mr. Goldman is survived by his wife of 67
years, Doris Rothberg Goldman; his broth-
er, Marvin Goldman; his daughters, Carol
Klein and Meg Kasdan; their husbands,
Mitchell Klein and Lawrence Kasdan; four
grandchildren, Jake Kasdan, Jonathan
Kasdan, Jackson Klein, Natalie Klein; three
great-grandchildren.
Contributions may be made to Orchards
Children's Services, to the Gabriella
Foundation or to a charity of one's choice.
