rani Silver can't stop raving
about her first experience as a
Detroit delegation head at the
JCC Maccabi Games.
"It was terrific:' she
said about the Maccabi
Games & ArtsFest held
Aug. 4-9 in Orange
County, Calif.
"The organization
was amazing;' she
said. "Most venues
were within 15 min-
Franci Silver
utes of the hub (the
Merange Jewish Community Center in
Irvine). Everything went very smoothly.
There were 2,500 kids there, and you'd
never know it."
Those 2,500 Jewish teens and 450
coaches represented 62 delegations
from around the world. About 800
Orange County families hosted the
participants.
On a personal level, Silver said she
enjoyed expanding her sports horizons.
She's a former Detroit Maccabi soccer
coach.
"I got to watch an array of our ath-
letes, not just soccer players:' she said.
"I saw several games and several sports.
I think I watched three or four inline
hockey games."
Detroit's new lacrosse team debuted
in Orange County.
Stuart Bass was Detroit's delegation
head at the Maccabi Games in Austin,
Texas. Those games were held July
28-Aug. 2.
