The elephant in the room, unmen-
tionable in the politically correct press,
is the role of Islam in Israel's security
problem. The Hamas charter cites
"Allah's Apostle who said: "The Hour
will not be established until you fight
with the Jews, and the stone behind
which a Jew will be hiding will say, "0
Muslim! There is a Jew hiding behind
me, so kill him:' (The Hour is the ful-
fillment of Islam's mission to subjugate
the world to Sharia law.)
The resolve of Hamas, Iranian
ayatollahs or any fundamentalist
group to fight to the death for fear
of the Koran's condemnation to hell
for those who retreat, renders any
secular government irrelevant as a
partner for peace or compromise.
Because Muhammad told his follow-

ers they were destined to rule, Israel's
creation represents a repudiation of
their prophet and not just a real estate
dispute.
Muhammad also instructed
Muslims to infiltrate the enemy's
(unbelievers') camp and live peace-
fully until strong enough to overthrow
them, and corollary to that should
be Israel's security directive, which is
to preserve borders that maintain a
Jewish state and maintain the military
superiority that forces them to choose
peace. The Koran abrogates treaties
that impede the aforementioned mis-
sion, so agreements are a waste of
breath and paper on those lacking the
means or will to enforce them.

A Seasoned Veteran
Of IDF Volunteering

I just completed my 26th Volunteers
for Israel/Sar-El experience in Israel.
The base was very clean, had a
beautiful rock garden but, of course,
no shower curtains. The IDF would
not want to spoil us Jewish princesses.
The food was good and the work is
very important. We rolled out cam-
ouflage covers for the tanks, cleaned
them and rerolled them. It took about
eight people to roll them out. We also
readied everything that was needed
for each tank so that, within 12 hours,
20,000 soldiers from that base could
be deployed in an emergency.
It was the first time I had been on a
base where there were so many units,
paratroopers, artillery, armory and the
Green Beret fighters.
Also, every flag-raising was finished
with the singing of "Hatikvah." One
morning, there were at least 500 sol-
diers at the flag-raising as there were
some high-ranking officers, among
them generals. The main general made
a speech in Hebrew and then all the
soldiers turned toward us and clapped
and saluted us.
We were told afterward that he said
look over there, there are people from
16 to 81 years old, they pay their own
way here, they live and eat and work
like you for nothing. They are from all
over the world, acknowledge them and
thank them. That was a first in my 26
years of volunteering.
Also, a general of the whole area

came to see our work and asked us all
questions. When he found out that was
my 26th trip, he told me that I should
be the general not him as I have "spent
more time in the army" than he had.
All in all, it was wonderful and I
hope that I can go many more times.
Volunteers for Israel-USA(VFI-USA)
is associated with Sar-El, a nonprofit
organization that administers the
program in Israel. Volunteers typically
spend two or three weeks living and
working alongside Israelis at an army
base or IDF warehouses. The program
offers a way to contribute to the State
of Israel in a very direct way. Contact

Corrections

• "Camp Upgrades" (Aug. 8, page 18) should have stated that Charach-Sheruth Village
was given in loving memory of Janice Charach and in honor of Jeffrey Charach.
Jeffrey Charach provided two mezuzot that were affixed to the doorposts of the
Charach-Sheruth Lodge. Jeffrey was unable to attend the dedication due to illness.
• An ad for the Temple Shir Shalom Food, Fun and Fireworks listed the wrong day for
the event (Aug. 8, page 18). It will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 19. For information,
call the temple at (248) 737-8700. Also, see the ad on page 22 of this week's IN.
