It's only natural because the Hurwitzes love canines and have two rescued labrador retrievers at home. Visiting dogs get fresh water and treats. Regular customers Bob and Erika Singer of Bloomfield Hills say Annie, their white Samoyed, likes the atten- tion at Steve's. Some of the nice peo- ple they meet will "share memories of a Samoyed that they, or someone they knew, once had:' said Bob Singer. Michigan House Bill 4335 was introduced this year to allow cities and restaurants to decide whether to allow dogs in outdoor seating areas throughout the state. Currently, state law requires dogs to be tied to a post on the outside of the patio. "But it's up to local public health departments on the county level to determine how aggressively they want to enforce the issue said Justin Winslow, vice president of govern- ment affairs for the Lansing-based Michigan Restaurant Association. Service dogs, helping individuals who are impaired, are almost always permitted in restaurants. The policy at Traffic Jam & Snug in Detroit, according to staff, is "as long as it's a nice dog that won't bother anyone, it can go anywhere on our patio." The Whitney restaurant in Detroit welcomes well-behaved pooches and "parents" to its front patio garden area every Tuesday, from 5-10 p.m. The Old Miami in Detroit doesn't usually cater to dogs, but has confi- dence in Blondy's ability to monitor them at Drinking With Dogs events. Fido can make more friends at the next one, scheduled 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, in the bar's ample backyard. ❑ Some K9 Hangouts In Ferndale: Como's: (248) 548-5005 Dino's Lounge: (248) 591-3466 The Emory: (248) 546-8202 Rosie O'Grady's Irish Pub: (248) 591-9163. _ Fresh Cut Flowers • Produce • Organics • Baked Goods • Kids Crafts Prepared Foods • Live Entertainment • Annuals & Perennials BirminghamFarmersMarket.org WM coo pie bt)ell Scott Wilson An ..,eadowbrook f y DYNAMICJAFE Ammo I: Bar a Grill =Maws axismilsiciMMM GASSTATONT REAOR Yet.re iN 1854150 1.4efpoiti,c) Ake Hefpos sraet NEUTERING ME MEANS 3,200 LESS HOMELESS CATS ON THE STREETS OF ISRAEL IN A FEW YEARS.
