Maimonides Tribute Dinner
was held at Adat Shalom Synagogue in
Farmington Hills.
This year's Maimonides Award recipi-
ents were Drs. Brent N. Davidson, Gary
B. Langnas and Harvey M. Lefkowitz. All
have excelled in their profession and in
dedication to serving their community,
and support of the economic strength and
security of the State of Israel.
Guest speaker was Dr. Matthew
Levitt, senior fellow at the Washington
Institute for Near East Policy, where he
directs the institute's Stein Program on
Counterterrorism and Intelligence.

To Pick Apples At Orchard
Memories of Rosh Hashanah include the
sweetness of apples and honey and special
traditions, including a trip to an apple
orchard.
Congregation Beth Ahm in West
Bloomfield will visit the Erwin Orchards,
61475 Silver Lake Road, South Lyon, on
Sunday, Aug. 25, for a hayride into the
orchard to pick apples. Donuts and cider
will be served in the picnic area at noon.

Volunteers Needed For
Arts, Beats and Eats
Volunteers (ages 16 and up) are needed for
the Jewish Federation of Metro Detroit's
team to work the gates at Arts, Beats and
Eats in Royal Oak on Sunday, Sept. 1, from
1:45 to 6:45 p.m.
Volunteers will receive a T-shirt, food
tickets, a parking pass and a four-day

Yoskowitz will discuss
"Preparations During Elul for the High
Holidays (Yamim Noraim)." On Aug. 13,
the topic will be "Kol Nidre and the Ethics
of Intentional and Unintentional Lying:'
On Aug. 20, he will present "The Haftarah
of Jonah on Yom Kippur" in memory of
Irwin Alterman, who chanted it for many
years at Adat Shalom. His subject on Aug.
27 will be "Teshuvah: For What Do Our
Country and Our People Need to Repent?"
Individuals may attend any or all of the
meetings. Participants are invited to bring
their own dairy lunches. Drinks and des-
sert will be provided.
