GOLDE, Marilyn Grobeson

Sept. 22, 1932 - June 27, 2013

MARILYN "P'ninah" GOLDE was born on a farm in Washington, Michigan to
Jewish Russian-Polish immigrants, Morris Gold and Sarah Sandweiss, before
moving to 4224 Elmhurst and graduating from Detroit's Central High, Class of 1950.
She was predeceased by her husband, Murray Grobeson, and her elder siblings:
Esther, Donald, and Helen. She is survived by her two sons, Mitchell, a retired LAPD
officer, and Jay, a Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney, and Jay's wife,
Dana, and their two children, Seth, 7, and Ariel, 4, along with Marilyn's many nieces
and nephews, as well as Jay's Godmother, Yetta Ginsburg.
Marilyn moved to California in 1953, where she worked in the movie industry. On
January 25, 1958, she married Murray, born in Brooklyn, New York, son of Jake and
Becky Grobisen, also Jewish immigrants from Russia-Poland.
Marilyn was active in academic and social programs, including the PTA at all of
her children's schools, organizing fundraisers for Pediatric AIDS, holding the first
Conservative Judaism Conference on Lesbian and Gay issues, and helping to
establish the SHOMRIM Society of Southern California, for Jewish Law Enforcement
professionals.
Marilyn dedicated much of her life to the State of Israel and Judaism, being active
in American Jewish fundraising for the 1973 Yom Kippur War, Israel Bonds, JNF's
"Trees for Israel," the Jewish Community Center, and Temple Isaiah. Marilyn opened
her home to Ethiopian refugee families so they would have a place to celebrate Jewish holidays. However, Marilyn's greatest joy in
life was being a "Bubby" to her cherished grandchildren.
Marilyn worked at AMPAL and later the Jewish Federation, before becoming the Executive Secretary for Rabbi Jacob Pressman
of Temple Beth Am, where she also took on the duties of the Wedding & Bar Mitzvah Coordinator. After helping to establish The
Pressman Academy, Marilyn also served as a teacher.
Marilyn was interred at Hillside Memorial Park in Los Angeles on June 30th near her sister Helen Golde Kasof and her brother-in-
law, Leon Kasof. Anyone interested may plant trees in Israel in her honor through JNF.org or 800-542-TREE. Tree Certificates and
sympathy cards may be sent in care of Jay Grobeson, 11256 Garfield Ave., Culver City, CA 90230.
