>> pet lovers Happy Dog JN Intern D o you work long hours? Have frequent meetings you can't miss? Or just need a little extra help with your puppy? Happy Dog is here to assist. Just like humans, daily exercise plays a vital role in a dog's life. Dog lover Jami Lewin, a member of Temple Israel in West Bloomfield, unofficially started her dog-walking business, Happy Dog, circa 2007. Her clients consisted of friends and coworkers until she officially made it a business. Jami Lewin obtained her dog, Bauer, from Waggin Tales Rescue in January of 2012. "In 2007, I worked for a company where we were allowed to bring our dogs to work:” said Lewin of Keego Harbor. "There were probably about five dogs there at once. Our office backed up to the West Bloomfield Trail and I would offer to take care of them and walk them. "I started asking my friends if they needed me to look after their dogs when they were out of town or were working late. In 2012, I officially branded my business:' Lewin added. Happy Dog provides eight services: daily walks, yard clean up, puppy care, evening care, medication administra- tion, potty breaks, play dates and swim sessions. Pricing is based on driving distance and varies depending on the size and amount of time Lewin spends with each dog. Happy Dog will consider dog sitting Akita G day Dog walker promotes a happy and healthy lifestyle for your pet. These care services provided by Happy Dog are offered to families throughout the Oakland County area. Services are designed to promote a happy and healthy lifestyle and are tai- lored to meet each dog's specific needs. Lewin was the primary dog walker and care provider until she recently hired Leila McKinney, one of her coworkers at Equilibrium Pilates Studio in Bloomfield Hills, where she is the studio and marketing manager. "I'm kind of like the studio nanny for every one's pets:' said McKinney of Waterford. "Jami asked if I wanted to join, and I was thrilled. "It doesn't feel like a job. It's a way for me to exercise and have a dog with me; it's really fun. "I walk two dogs for Happy Dog right now. The dogs are great, I have no complaints:' McKinney added. The reason Lewin started Happy Dog is because she is aware of how essential it is for dogs to go on daily walks. "Just letting them out in the back- yard isn't enough:' Lewin explained. "It's good exercise, but it's not a sub- stitute for walking. Dogs need walks; it's stimulation for them. They get to investigate sounds and scents. A dog that exercises is a healthier and hap- pier dog, hence the name!" Lewin said it takes a few minutes for her and the dogs to get to know each other, but when they do it's amazing. "The dogs go bonkers whenever we walk into houses. They wag their tails and are very excited:' she said. "If you're a dog lover, you love all kinds of dogs and they can sense that:' Vicki DeRoven has been with Happy Dog for a year. Lewin walks her two dogs two to three times a week. "Because I have a dog walker, I know for a fact my dogs are getting plenty of exercise, especially the bigger one said DeRoven of Keego Harbor. "Jami is good for my dogs and is very attentive. She does a great job, and I am very happy with her:' Lewin said, "My main priority is to make sure your dog is taken care of. I am happy to be there and want to be there to help these families out:' Visit myhappydogwalking.com for more information or to schedule a meet and greet.
