Obituaries
ames Bonin, 68, of Troy,
died peacefully at home
surrounded by loving fam-
ily and devoted close friends on July
2, 2013.
He was born in Detroit and
attended the University
of Michigan and Wayne
State University. He
received his legal educa-
tion at Detroit College of
Law, where he received
his J.D. in 1972.
Mr. Bonin was admit-
ted to the State Bar of
Michigan in 1972 and
James Bori
was a member of the
bars of the U.S. District
Court, Eastern and Western District
Courts of Michigan, the U.S. Sixth
Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S.
Supreme Court (1988). He had been
an adjunct professor at the University
of Detroit Mercy School of Law,
Cooley Law School and a lecturer at
Lawrence Technological University,
where he mentored and inspired stu-
dents who remained his colleagues
and lifelong friends.
Mr. Bonin was a highly respected
attorney who worked at Garan,
Lucow and Miller for more than
35 years; he was president at the
time of his death. He became the
foremost authority on no-fault auto
law in Michigan and the country.
He authored the Guide to Michigan
DR. EDWARD E. CHODOROFF, 79,
former Detroiter of Las Vegas, Nev.,
died June 23, 2013.
He is survived by his son, David
(Jeannie Arell); daughter, Dina
(John) Holst; grandchildren, Kelly,
Arthur, Caillou and Sara Chodoroff,
Gwendolyn and Jeremy Holst; sisters,
Beatrice Twines and Rebecca Emmer;
brother-in-law, Howard Emmer.
He was the brother-in-law of the late
Gerald Taines.

ANN (ROSEN) COHEN, of Windsor,
died July 2, 2013.
She was the beloved mother of
Steven (Joanne) and Jeffrey (Stacy);
adoring grandmother of Alex,
Samantha and Madison; cherished
sister of Betty (Bert) Pazner. She is also
survived by many nieces and nephews;
and her spouse, Sidney; many dear
friends.
Mrs. Cohen was the daughter of the
late Harry and Dora; sister of the late
Fred (Gertrude).
Automobile No Fault, which was
renamed, in his honor, Borin's Guide
to Michigan Automobile No Fault.
Mr. Bonin was honored by
Michigan Lawyers Weekly in 2009
as one of the 25 leaders in law. He
was designated as the
best injury litigator
in the Detroit area for
2011 and 20123 by Best
Lawyers in America. He
was also honored with
the Earl Cline Award
for Excellence in 2012.
Mr. Bonin is survived
by his adoring partner,
Jan Mainella; mother,
Adele Bonin; son and
daughter-in-law, Noah and Bonnie
Bonin; daughters and sons-in-law,
Betsy Ann and Seth Weinberg,
Carrie Mainella and Kris Chadwick;
brothers and sister-in-law, Tom and
Sara Bonin, and Kenneth Bonin;
sister and brother-in-law, Laurie
and Raymond Scott; grandchildren,
Mason William Chadwick and Jacob
James Chadwick; many other loving
relatives, close friends and business
associates.
Services and interment were held
at Machpelah Cemetery in Ferndale.

Highland Beach,
Fla., formerly of
Detroit, died July 2,

She was co-

Garland
Furniture on Jos.
Compeau in Hamtramck and an inte-
rior decorator.
Mrs. Garland is survived by her
son and daughter-in-law, Howard
and Sylvia F. Garland of Connecticut;
daughter and son-in-law, Sharon Stein
