Michigan Should Allow
Same-Sex Marriages
I was very pleased to read last week's
front-page article about the recent
Supreme Court rulings on gay issues.
For those of us who have been advo-
cates for GLBT equality, it is gratify-
ing to see that hearts and minds are
changing.
It wasn't that long ago that the
JN didn't feel that the Kutinsky-
Neumann family was newsworthy,
and now they are on the cover of the
paper with their beautiful children.
Micki Grossman's comments about
how her feelings have evolved since
2000 when Ross and Alan had their
commitment ceremony certainly par-
allel many others who have grown to
understand that gay people deserve to
find love and have a happy life.
The Jewish Gay Network, now a
committee of the Jewish Community
Center, is celebrating the positive
changes that are taking place; how-
ever, its mission for full inclusion has
not yet been achieved.
Perhaps Michigan will soon join
the other states that have laws that
allow same sex marriages? When that
happens, we will be a more welcom-
ing community for everyone!

Egyptians Will Celebrate
Their Independence
July 4, 1776, was a glorious day in
American history. And July 4, 2013,
will be a joyous day in Egyptian his-
tory.
The self-sacrificing and courageous
Egyptian people took their destiny
into their own hands. They stood up
to the violent and brutal enforcers of
the Islamic dictatorship that had taken
control of their country. It was their
hopes and dreams against the oppres-
sion and guns of the Muslim tyranny.
The mainly peaceful demonstrations
by millions of Egyptians forced the
radical, Islamic dictatorship to give up
power. Freedom and democracy will
be the ultimate victors. Egyptians are
going to get their country back.
We, as Americans, will be celebrat-
ing our Independence Day alongside
the Egyptians, who will be celebrating
theirs.
