ADL. frontlines 100 PIT Fire Or Ice? It's Your Choice C ole Porter reminded us in Kiss Me, Kate that it is "Too darn hot:' A traditional winter song tells us "Baby, it's cold outside:' Weather has always been a bane, wherever we are, providing us with a topic of conversation. But are you aware that heat and cold play a part of our daily lives even when we are not com- menting on the weather? If you are a person who seems to have no feelings for others, then you are cold-hearted. Yet, if you get angry easily you get hot under the collar or are hot-tempered. Investments interest you? Well, for some cold cash there are those who can provide a hot tip. However, if someone offers you a hot item, be aware that there is a penalty for dealing in stolen goods. We all seem to know at least one braggart, someone who is full of hot air; and we can learn to give that person the cold shoulder. In his com- pany, you can make it hot for him by challenging what he says or you can throw cold water on his statements by disproving them. You will find cold comfort (little consolation) if you note something hot off the press (fresh), stay hot on the trail (follow it), only to find that you have been stopped cold by misinformation. Do you enjoy hearing a new hot musical group? Great; then just be sure to have your hearing tested regularly. Are you regularly engaged in a hot battle with your teenage children or grand- children? Just remember to choose your "wars" or you will find yourself out in the cold. Should you find yourself in the position of seeking new employment, do not get cold feet before a cold interview; and definitely do not learn a speech cold. That would make a bad impression. Rather, work to knock them cold with ro ■ your abilities and personality; do not appear to be a cold fish. In the winter, we often feel that every public place is a hotbed for dis- ease. We dislike having to deal with cold sores when we catch colds. If you tell me that you are going to kick a bad habit cold turkey, I may laugh and say, "That is a hot one!" Would that seem cold? Would it leave you cold? Ah, well ... that is not so hot. ❑ Imagine a World Without Hate n.
