Sundays At Beth Ahm
Lifelong learners are invited to free "Drop
In and Learn" lectures at Congregation
Beth Ahm in West Bloomfield on six

TV News Stars
Win Local Emmys
It was a winning night at the 35th annual
Michigan Emmy Awards for three local
Jewish media members at the June 15
black-tie gala at Sound Board inside
Detroit's Motor City Casino.
Former WDIV-TV and WJBK-TV health
reporter Lila Lazarus won for her special
report on the fungal meningitis outbreak.
She later posted a photo with her mother,
Evelyn Orbach, on Facebook with the cap-
tion, "Look, Ma, I won an Emmy!"
Meteorologist Paul Gross of WDIV-TV
received an award for on-camera talent
for his weather anchoring and the extra
science and environmental reports he pro-
vides. This year marks his 30th year with
WDIV.
Robin Schwartz, weekend anchor and
reporter at WJBK-TV (Fox 2), won two
Emmys; on-camera talent for general
assignment reporting, and her FOXe Kids
Edition special, a half-hour report on
environmentally friendly efforts by schools
and students
across Metro
Detroit. Robin is
also a longtime

IRP Will Present
Kirsh Lecture Series
The Jewish Community Center of
Metropolitan Detroit's IRP (Institute for
Retired Professionals) will host its Annual
Kirsh Lectures Series, focusing on inter-
national relations, on three Wednesdays
in July. Sessions are 2:30-4 p.m. and
will be held at the Berman Center for
the Performing Arts at the JCC in West
Bloomfield.
The first session will be July 10 and will
feature Lisa Cook, assistant professor of
economics and international relations at
Michigan State University. Her topic will be
"The Euro-zone:'
On July 17, Philip B.K. Potter, assistant
professor of public policy and political sci-
ence at the University of Michigan, will
speak on "The Causes and Consequences of
Alliances Between Terrorist Organizations:'
The final session will be July 24, when
Roy B. Norton, consul general of Canada
in Detroit, will discuss "Even Best Friends
Have Issues: U.S.-Canada Relations, Past
and Present:'
There is no charge for IRP members, but
