By Lynne Konstantin

olleen Dillon loves to sew. And to craft. And to dress up her adorable
daughters (ages 10 and 6) with husband, Patrick, in equally adorable
stuff. So when the Royal Oak mom, who has a bachelor of science in
nursing, began to get requests from friends to make a hair clip here or a
tutu there to give as gifts, she went with it. Then more people asked.
In 2006, enough people had asked her to craft her sweet creations that
she established Prince and Princess Dreams. Leaving nursing behind to
pursue her creative passions while staying home with her young girls, Dil-
lon has developed a knack for coming up with the kinds of cute accesso-
ries and embellishments that make moms beg for one in every color.
Custom-made poufy tutus for infants up to size 6 (or bigger if you ask
her) in a rainbow of possible colors, personalized T-shirts, baby bloomers
embroidered with an old-fashioned monogram to peek out from under
a dress, fun playtime capes for boys and girls, ribbon-embellished burp
cloths (which can be tucked into one of her gorgeous new-mom-friendly
Diaper Cakes, with tiers of rolled up diapers), birthday party favors and
an endless variety of hair bows, ribbons, clips and headbands are just the
beginning (she even creates custom wedding veils and headpieces).
The entrepreneur has recently come up with a best-seller that is perfect
for campers, athletes and active girls of all ages: headbands made out of
swimsuit material."A friend who is a Jazzercise instructor received a similar
one as a gift, and everyone in the class wanted one," says Dillon."' already
had my hair-accessory business, so I searched for fun and cool materi-
als and patterns. They are so versatile, they are great for tons of sports
for kids, and they are a great workout headband for adults. Practical and
fashionable!"

COOKBOOK

BENNO LEO BATALI

"For our dad's 50th birthday we wanted
to do something very special, something
that would show him that we had paid
attention during our times in the kitchen
together,"wrote Benno (16) and Leo (14)
Batali, sons of New York City chef, restau-
rateur and author Mario Batali (owner of
Babbo, Lupa and Otto, among others).
With a little help from mom, Susi Cah,
who snapped photos on her iPhone, the
boys presented their dad with THE BATALI
BROTHERS COOKBOOK ($14.95; Ecco), a
compilation of the family's favorite recipes
to whip up together during summers at
their home in Northern Michigan. Chock
full of yumminess like Cinnamon Swirl
French Toast, Blue Cheese Pocket Burg-
ers and Peach Shortcakes, the book, in
honor of its official publication, has been
appended with a few of Mario's own favor-
ites, like Grilled Mozzarella Sandwiches
and Oven-Dried Cherry Tomatoes with
Breadcrumbs. Local bookstores.
