At 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 18, Detroit
Public Television-Channel 56 debuts a
new weekly series, Detroit Performs.
The program will showcase interesting
artists in a variety of disciplines (not
just the performing arts) as well as arts
organizations in Southeast Michigan
and throughout America. The series
seeks to tell the stories of these artists
to reveal what the artistic experience is
like and how it might inspire others to

THE ART SCENE
The Detroit Institute of Arts debuts a
revitalized Kresge Court on Friday,
June 14, featuring new seating, lighting
and easy technology access for visitors.
A menu of light fare, coffee and cock-
tails will be available during museum
hours and a "cultural concierge" will be
on hand to provide information on the
DIA and Midtown happenings. Museum
hours are 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Tuesdays-
Thursdays, 9 a.m.-10 p.m. Fridays, and
10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
Admission is $8 adults, $6 seniors
ages 62+, $4 ages 6-17. Residents of
Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties

Subject and Object: Contemporary
Book Artists Explore Sacred Hebrew
Texts at the Museum of Biblical Art,
1865 Broadway (at 61st St.) in New

14-Sept. 29, looks at the Hebrew Bible
and other ancient Hebrew texts through
the eyes of contemporary book artists,
who, through their diverse approaches
and techniques, transform these
writings into contemporary works of
