A pro hockey player's lakeside home in Orchard Lake Village is a mecca for sports, fun, family — and plenty of options for unwinding. Lynne Konstantin I Design Writer Beth Singer I Photographer VII hen Ryan Kesler came to Joel Lerman, the latter knew he was going to have some fun. Kesler, the center for the NIIts Vancouver Canucks and an Olympic silver medalist, tapped the owner of Lerman Corporation in Bloomfield Hills to serve as the owner's representative as well as builder on the renovation of his Orchard Lake home, including sculpting the hilly beachfront property on Upper Straits Lake. In turn, Lerman turned to his own trusted colleague, Gary Roberts, president, CEO, creative director and landscape architect at Great Oaks Landscape Associates in Novi, to col- laborate on the project. Kesler, a self-described family man with two children and a third on the way with his wife, Andrea, grew up in Livonia and still calls Michigan home whenever possible, in large part due to his close relationships with friends and family, including his first hockey coach — his dad. And when he's home, he likes to play. "They are young, vigorous and athletic, and they like to entertain:' says Roberts. And they needed their home and landscaping to reflect that:' So Lerman and Roberts created a private recreational oasis of entertainment, where the busy dad can stay in shape, play with his family and catch up with his friends. In blissful, serene comfort. ❑ The older contemporary Orchard Lake home was transitioned into a softer, updated version of contemporary, inside and out. The driveway was reshaped around the trees and the garages were turned into a large entry court, where cars can drive in one side and out the other. Inside the lower level of the home, Lerman and Roberts worked with a specialized team to create a shooting range for Kesler — of the puck variety: Built 12 feet under the garage, a computerized puck- shooting system, much like a bowling alley retrieval system, feeds pucks at players on a floor of synthetic ice. Also inside: an arcade for vintage video games, a theater room, an enormous gym and a basketball court. Do you have a home you'd like to share with the community?
