Beautiful Arlo
The spirit of JARC seen through the eyes of very young artists.
j
ARC, an organization
serving people with
disabilities, hosted an
art contest at its 15th annual
SpringElation fundraising event
May 22 at the Detroit Zoo.
Winners were announced at the
family-fun event, where all the
artwork was displayed.
The art contest was a new
addition to SpringElation. It
was open to the public; JARC
received more than 70 entries.
Participants submitted their
artistic interpretations of the
theme "Imagine A World Where
Anything Is Possible."
Entries were judged in four
categories: pre-kindergarten,
grades K-1, grades 2-3 and
grades 4-6. Winners were select-
ed from each age category and
presented with a $25 gift card.
The grand prize-winner received
a $100 gift card. The following
students won:
• Jacob Apap from Akiva
Hebrew Day School in Southfield
won the pre-kindergarten category.
• Addison Rose Fenster, a first-grader at
Lone Pine Elementary School in Bloomfield
Hills, won the K-1 category.
• Second-grader Marnie Jacobs from
Woodcreek Elementary School in Farmington
Hills won the category for grades 2-3.
• Julia Kenny, a fifth-grader at St. Mary
Catholic School in Royal Oak, won the grades
4-6 category.
• JARC's grand prize art contest winner was
Dalia Schwarzbaum, a sixth-grade student at
West Hills Middle School in Bloomfield Hills.
Nearly 2,000 partygoers attended
SpringElation, which supports JARC's Merle
Marnie Jacobs, grades 2-3
and Shirley Harris Children and Family
Division, providing services to children with
disabilities and their families. SpringElation is
the major source of private funding for JARC's
services for children with disabilities.
"We had a tremendous response to this
year's SpringElation art contest, and we're very
pleased with the many entries we received,"
said Rick Loewenstein, CEO of JARC. "Guests
and especially students that entered the con-
test really enjoyed being able to see all the cre-
ative entries featured at SpringElation."
JARC will host the contest again next year.
All winning entries can also be viewed online at
www.jarc.org.
