former Detroiter of
Boynton Beach, Fla.,
died May 21, 2013.
He is survived by his
beloved wife, Gloria;

NORMAN J. COHEN,
88, of Bloomfield Hills,
died May 31, 2013. He
was the President and
CEO of Biltmore
Properties.
Mr. Cohen is sur-

SOL DOVITZ, 91, of
West Bloomfield, died
May 29, 2013.
After graduating
from Wayne State
University, Sol was a
teacher, counselor and
then principal in Detroit
Dovitz
Public Schools. Students
and teachers remember
him as an involved and caring educator.
Sol has been devoted to his beloved wife,
Lorraine, who survives him. Their 64
years of marriage were filled with family,
friendships, bridge, golf and world trav-
els. Sol loved exploring life.
Sol was a very involved grandpa and
poppa. His five grandchildren appreci-
ated his caring questions about what was
important to them in their lives. They
enjoyed his sharp wit, lively political dis-
cussions and passion for Detroit sports
teams. He was a thoughtful person, going
out of his way to call someone, send a
card or offer assistance. His daughter and
son were fortunate to grow up in a home
filled with love.
Sol is survived by his wife, Lorraine;
son and daughter-in-law, Steven and
Susan Dovitz; daughter and son-in-law,
Robin and Steve Pollens; grandchildren,
Emily and Ryan Kravetz, Anne and Jason
Canvasser, Melanie Dovitz and fiancee Alex
Greenstein, Karrie and Eric Slavin, and Andy
Pollens.
He was the loving brother of the late
Benjamin Dovitz, the late Dora Silets, the late
Joseph Dovitz and the late Rose Sanders.
Interment was held at Beth El
Memorial Park Cemetery in Livonia.

SHOLOM I. GLIKSMAN, nearly 70,
died at his home in Madison, Wis., on
May 16, 2013. A Chicago resident for
most of his life, Sholom was born on
May 18, 1943, in Chicago and raised in
Detroit. He served as a chaplain during
the Vietnam war and was a graduate of
Roosevelt, Loyola and Syracuse univer-
sities. With a love of learning, he was
actively engaged in politics, Jewish edu-
cation and synagogue life, and commu-
nity continuing education programs as a
student, teacher and leader in Madison
and Chicago.
He is survived by his wife of 13 years,
Carol Brumer Gliksman of Madison, his
brother, Rabbi Yosef Nadler of Chicago,
and many beloved relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his par-
ents, HaRav Shlomo HaCohen Gliksman
and Anna Robinson; his brothers, Harry
Nadler and Rabbi Mordechai Gliksman;
and his sisters, Sonja Gliksman
Feigenbaum and Paula Gliksman.

ETTIE HANDELMAN,
92, of Southfield, died
May 21, 2013.
She is survived by her

Ettie was the wife of the late Ray
Raphael and the late Barney Handelman,
and sister of the late Phyllis Robb.

HUGH M. KOPEL, D.D.S died May 22,
2013 at the age of 94.
Dr. Kopel was a loving father, grand-
father, husband and professional.
Passionate about dentistry from the
start, Dr. Kopel earned his D.D.S.
degree at the University of Detroit in
1943, followed by his M.S. degree at the
University of Michigan in 1948. In the
interim, he served as a captain in the
Dental Corps of the U.S. Army with the
11th Airborne Division. After the war,
he entered private practice in Detroit in
1950 as well as instructing at his alma
mater, where he eventually took the title
of assistant professor and director of
graduate pedodontic studies. Dr. Kopel

moved to Los Angeles in 1967, where
he served as an esteemed professor at
USC for more than 20 years. In 1995,
he joined the UCLA School of Dentistry
faculty and was active with the Rancho
Los Amigos Medical Center until his
90th birthday.
Dr. Kopel was the beloved husband of
Lillian, who predeceased him in 2008,
and the devoted father of his son, Reid,
daughter, Tracey, son-in-law, Howard,
and three grandchildren. Dr. Kopel
will be remembered as a steadfast fam-
ily man— a man of endless curiosity,
humor, intelligence and joy.
In lieu of flowers, please make dona-
tions to the Children's Dental Clinic at
Children's Hospital Los Angeles.

LUCY KUPERSTEIN,
90, of Oak Park, died
May 27, 2013.
She is survived by
her beloved husband,
Lev Kuperstein; daugh-
ter and son-in-law,
Emilia and Emil Feller
Kuperstein
of Bloomfield Hills;
grandchildren, Robert (Nessa) Feller,
Leonid (Lisa) Feller; great-grandchil-
dren, Noah, Sasha, Lucas, Logan, Levi
and Lucy. She is also survived by many
loving family members and friends.
Lucy was the sister of the late
Valentina (the late Michael) Grinblatt
and the aunt of the late Greg Grinblatt.

DR. ROBERT LEWIS
