Moustaki's Paris-based production company said he had died May 28 at his home in Nice in southern France fol- lowing a long illness, the French news agency AFP report- ed. He was 79. The Egypt native won his nickname in France for his simple Georges musical style and Moustaki melancholic ballads that he sang himself. He also wrote and composed in the 1960s for such renowned artists as Edith Piaf, Yves Montand and Juliette Greco. Among the more famous of the hun- dreds of songs he wrote is "Les Meres Juives" or "The Jewish Mothers:' Moustaki told the RTL radio station in December that he wanted to be bur- ied in Alexandria, where he lived until he was 17 with his Jewish parents, who came there from Corfu, Greece. They later moved to France, where he spent the rest of his life. Moustaki sang in French, Italian, English, Greek, Portuguese, Arabic and Spanish. P.A. Security Officers Arrested In Death Of Israeli Man JERUSALEM (JTA) — Israeli troops arrested three Palestinian Authority security officers for their involvement in the death of an Israeli man during a visit to Joseph's Tomb. The officers arrested May 21 had been released recently after serving a year in Palestinian prison for their involvement in the April 2011 killing of Ben-Joseph Livnat, 25, a father of four from Jerusalem. The P.A. had refused to turn them over to Israel. Livnat, the nephew of Culture and Sports Minister Limor Livnat, had entered the Palestinian city of Nablus in the West Bank to visit Joseph's Tomb. He and other worshipers did not coordinate their visit with the Israeli army, which coordinates monthly prayer visits to the site. The tomb is believed to be the burial site of the biblical patriarch Joseph and his two sons, Ephraim and Manasseh. Members of the Breslov sect fre- quently sneak in to the tomb to pray without coordinating their visits, according to reports. Legislation Enhancing Holocaust Survivors' Care Introduced WASHINGTON (JTA) — A bipartisan slate of congressional lawmakers intro- duced a bill that would facilitate assis- tance for Holocaust survivors. The legislation introduced Tuesday in the U.S. House by Representatives and the U.S. Senate would add survivors to a priority list for social services outlined in the Older Americans Act. It would name a staffer to oversee the provision of such services, which would include kosher meals and improved transportation. An estimated 120,000 Holocaust sur- vivors live in the United States today, at an average age of 80; three of five sur- vivors are women; and approximately two-thirds of Holocaust survivors live alone said a statement from the offices of Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-Fla.) and Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Fla.), who introduced the measure and have been advocating for such leg- islation since 2010. Sens. Ben Cardin (D-Md.) and Mark Kirk (R-Ill.) introduced the bill in the U.S. Senate. The Jewish Federations of North America, which worked with the law- makers to advance the bill, said the bill would help survivors remain in their communities. "Enabling Holocaust survivors to age in place is vital for health, com- fort and security, and brings dignity to this vulnerable population:' said William Daroff, the director of JFNAs Washington office. Also sponsoring the bill in the House are Reps. Ted Deutch (D-Fla.), Brad Schneider (D-Ill.), Dave Joyce (R-Ohio) and Henry Waxman (D-Calif.); and in the Senate, Sens. Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.) and Bill Nelson (D-Fla.). Suspect With Links To Tsarnaevs Killed During FBI Questioning (JTA) — A Chechen man being questioned for his connection to the Tsarnaev brothers and a triple homi- cide was killed after he attacked an FBI agent with a knife, according to reports. Ibragim Todashev, who was living in Orlando, Fla., was being questioned at his apartment on the homicides, in which alleged Boston Marathon bomb- er Tamerlan Tsarnaev was suspected of being involved. "The agent, two Massachusetts State Police troopers, and other law enforce- ment personnel were interviewing (Todashev) ... when a violent con- frontation was initiated by the indi- vidual," the FBI said, according to the Boston Herald.
