T
o honor the dedica-
tion and hard work
of approximately 150
regular Yad Ezra volunteers and
board members, the organiza-
tion hosted its annual Volunteer/
Board Appreciation Dinner on May
8 at Congregation Beth Ahm in
West Bloomfield. Nicole Lester of
Bloomfield Hills chaired the event.
Yad Ezra is able to accomplish
its mission of feeding needy Jewish
families in Metro Detroit because
of the dedication and commitment
of its volunteers, says Lea Luger,
executive director. Through their
efforts, Yad Ezra is able to maintain
its hands-on approach, working
one-on-one with clients in the
areas of intake and distribution.
Volunteers also help in the office
with clerical tasks, data entry, and
the planning and execution of spe-
cial projects and fundraising events
for the organization.
Since 2001, a volunteer has been
presented with the Diane and
Emery Klein Volunteer Recognition
Award, established by Yad Ezra's
leadership to honor Diane and
Emery's heartfelt and unwavering
support of the organization.
This year, the award was present-
ed to Betty and Ed Klein of West
Bloomfield, a volunteer duo that
has been coming to Yad Ezra since
2004 and 2005, respectively. Betty's
responsibilities include distribut-
ing the butter, margarine, cottage
cheese and eggs, earning herself the
nickname "Dairy Queen:' Ed works
a variety of jobs, such as working
the scale, passing out bonus items
and acting as a quality-control
inspector. Both enjoy talking with
the clients and volunteers and
always do their jobs with smiles on
their faces.

tunities or to arrange a warehouse
