LOSING YOUR HAIR?

D

espite the rain and the
humid weather, more than
600 people of Oak Park and
neighboring cities joined together
on April 28 for the Great Lag b'Omer
Parade organized by students of the
Lubavitch Yeshiva of Oak Park.
Lag b'Omer is a festive day celebrat-
ing the anniversary of the passing
of the great sage and mystic Rabbi
Shimon bar Yochai, author of the
Zohar. Lag b'Omer also carries the
theme of the imperative to love and
respect one's fellow (Ahavat Yisrael).
The event began with a children's
rally with speakers and refreshments,
followed by a parade and various floats
that featured live music as well as
information on fundamental mitzvot.
The procession went from Pepper
Elementary School to the Harry and
Wanda Zekelman Campus of the
yeshivah.
"The display of Jewish pride as the
community marched together made all
the hard work worth it:' said Boruch
Ceitlin, a Yeshiva student and one of
the organizers. "We are happy that we

not only get an opportunity to learn,
but also to bring our studies to good
results, as we say in the morning
prayers, Lilmod Ul'lamed (to learn and
to teach):'
The event was sponsored by a num-
ber of organizations and philanthro-
pists, including Dan Werner, Stuart
Fay, Harold Beznos, Jeffrey Sakwa, Jay
Greenspan, all of Metro Detroit, and
Jeffrey Cohen of Baltimore. ❑
