He was an Army vet- eran of World War II, having been stationed in Japan and trained with Army Intelligence. Until Schumer January 2013, he was the president and owner of General Linen Uniform Service, an industrial and linen supply business employing more than 150 people in the city of Detroit, established in 1919 by his father, Harry Schumer. A lifelong Zionist and supporter of the State of Israel, Mr. Schumer was affiliated with HaShomer HaTzair and the Labor Zionist movement. Organizations that benefit- ted from his philanthropy included Jewish Federation, Jewish Theological Seminary, American Friends of Hebrew University, the Weizmann Institute, Wayne State University and his alma mater, University of Michigan. His family and friends are grateful for the values he exemplified throughout his life- time. May his memory be for a blessing.
