Jewish Super Bowl Champ
To Aid Lubavitch Yeshiva
It's not every day that you get the
opportunity to meet a Jewish Super
Bowl Champion, but you can on
Wednesday, May 22, at 7 p.m. at the
home of Larry and Helen Brown in
Southfield.
Alan Veingrad, 49, of Boca Raton,
Fla., competed for seven years as an
offensive lineman in the NFL, first
with the Green Bay Packers and then
the Dallas Cowboys, with whom he
won Super Bowl XXVII in 1992.
Veingrad, given the Hebrew name
Shlomo, will share his message of
greatness and how the lifestyle he fell
into after his retirement from profes-
sional football left a void that unwit-
tingly led him to the Torah and mitz-
vot. He may be the only former NFL
player to become a Torah-observant
Orthodox Jew. He will speak about
how to "transform uniqueness into

Beth Ahm Offers Seminar
On Planning For Elderly
"How do I properly care for my aging
parent? When should I seek professional
help, and what do I do if Mom or Dad
is resistant? Do Morn or Dad need to
move into an assisted living facility?
Why do my children what me to have a
caregiver? How come my children don't
understand what I want? What are the
legal precautions I should take in prepar-
ing for end-of-life issues?"
These questions, and others, are often
asked when dealing with eldercare
issues. The questions are difficult, the
answers are complex, and the dialogue
between children and their parents can
be strenuous.
The Tikkun Olam Social Action Team
of Congregation Beth Ahm in West
Bloomfield is hosting "Planning for
Life ... The Later Years" at 7:30 p.m.
Thursday, May 30. This free seminar,
which is for both children and parents,
has been designed to provide the neces-
sary information and tools to have a
productive family discussion about the
unique needs of the elderly.
Eldercare specialists Diane Sasson
and Sara Zivian Zwickl will explore the
medical, legal, financial and other per-
sonal issues related to aging. They will
also discuss end-of-life issues, including
funerals and burial.
RSVP by May 28 to Nancy Kalef at
nancykalef@comcast.net . For informa-
tion, call (248) 851-6880.
