Jewish Educators Honored
For Melton Program

udy Silberg Loebl, director of
the Florence Melton School
of Metropolitan Detroit,
Jewish Federation's Alliance for Jewish
Education, and Gail Greenberg, assis-
tant director, were presented with
the Florence Melton Award at the
18th annual International Director's
Conference held in Israel in January.
The conference brought together 36
directors and staff from the United
States, Canada, Australia, New
Zealand, South Africa and Israel for
its annual summit.
The award is given annually to
one Melton School that exempli-
fies the highest standards of excel-
lence and leadership. Melton CEO
Judy Mars Kupchan praised Loebl
and Greenberg, as well as Detroit's
Alliance for Jewish Education's
Director Jeffrey Lasday for the model
and inspiration that the Detroit
Melton School provides to the Melton
Detroit School Alumni
Are Subject Of Exhibit
A "Collection of Autographs from
Proud DPS Alumni" will begin a trav-
eling tour in June. The exhibit will
consist of more than 35 T-shirts with
photographic images of current and
former Detroit public schools.
Before the tour begins, alumni from
all DPS high schools and all graduat-
ing class years are invited to sign their
names on their school's shirt.
To sign a shirt, visit the Detroit
Shoppe at the Somerset Collection in
Troy 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Saturday, May 18,
and noon-6 p.m. Sunday, May 19. For

At Adat Shalom
Adat Shalom Synagogue in Farmington
Hills will honor its 2013 Confirmation
Class during the course of a Shabbat
Rocks Service on Friday evening, May 10.

Detroit Jewish Federation's leadership

A community presentation of
the Florence Melton Award will
take place during the 10th annual
Melton graduation/siyyum ceremony
7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 13, at the
Jewish Community Center in West
Bloomfield.
As part of a larger 10-year celebra-
tion of Melton graduations, Kupchan
and Gordon B. Zacks, son of Florence
Melton and chairperson of the
Melton School, will bestow the hon-
ors to representatives of the Jewish
community. The event will be free
and open to the public. The award
will be displayed at the Max M. Fisher
Federation Building in Bloomfield
Township.
