Lovefest
T
Temple Israel lauds Sterns at annual spring fundraiser.
emple Israel feted 40-year con-
gregational leaders Sherrie and
Norton Stern — a couple "good
to the core as synagogue president Marc
Whitefield put it.
The honor came at "Heart+Soul+
Chocolate," the theme of the 2013 version
of the West Bloomfield synagogue's annual
spring fundraiser.
Whitefield wrote in the evening pro-
gram: "Sherrie and Norty, we say thank
you — we say thank you for your valuable
service of playing a critical role in making
Temple what it is today. Most importantly,
you did it with a smile and you did it by
putting a smile on the faces of everyone
around you
Norton is past president of the syna-
gogue. Sherrie is past president of the
Sisterhood. They are past presidents of the
Couples Club and among the founders of
Shabbat Unplugged. They also have been
youth group advisers.
More than 500 people, including many
young adults, attended. The fundraising
goal was at least $150,000.
Curry- and wine-flavored truffles brought
by Vosges Haut-Chocolat were a hit. Evening
highlights included entertainment by Cantor
Michael Smolash and Cantorial Soloist Neil
Michaels, a musical tribute by grandchildren
Carly, Talia and Jonah Stern, and a toast by
Rabbi Harold Loss.
"But mostly:' said event co-chair Suzan
Curhan, "guests were there for Sherrie and
Norty, a favorite couple who have centered
their life around Temple to help enrich
their Jewish home. It was a Temple lovefest
for them:'
