Coalition Plans
Spring Workshop
Rabbi Aaron
Bergman will be the
featured speaker at
the Detroit Jewish
Coalition for
Literacy's (DJCL)
spring workshop on
Friday, May 10,
Rabbi Aaron
from 10 a.m.- noon
Bergman
at the Max M.
Fisher Federation
Building in Bloomfield Hills.
Presented in gratitude for DJCL's
extraordinary volunteer corps, the
workshop will include Bergman's
insights about "The Power of Positive
Living: How Sharing your Love of
Reading with a Child Can Enrich Your
Life
The program offers a special oppor-
tunity for new and veteran volunteers
alike to gain a deeper understanding
of how helping a child can bring a
sense of fulfillment into their lives.
Volunteers will also receive free books
for their students, as well as tips to
keep their students focused over the
summer break. A light buffet break-
fast will be provided, and there is no
charge for the program.
Founded and facilitated by the
Jewish Community Relations Council
(JCRC) and with generous sup-
port from Repair the World, DJCL
engages volunteers from local Jewish
organizations, benefitting kinder-
garten through third-grade students
in schools in Detroit and Oakland
County through tutoring and enrich-
ment programs and book drives.
JCRC board members Ruth Grey and
Sue Birnholtz are co-chairs of DJCL.
To register for the May 10 work-
shop or to learn more about DJCL
volunteer opportunities, contact JCRC
Literacy Coordinator Linda Foster at
the JCRC office, (248) 642-2656, or

Local Market
Aids Those In Need
B'nai B'rith received a call from its
"friends" at Busch's Market, regarding
non-perishable kosher Passover food
products that they had on hand to
donate. Because of this gesture, B'nai
B'rith was able to pick up and deliver
434 pounds of Passover products to
Yad Ezra's Food Bank to help feed the
less fortunate families in the com-
munity.
Busch's Market has been respon-
sible for the success of B'nai B'rith's
Project H.O.P.E. (Helping Our People
Everywhere) by helping to fill baskets
for both "break the fast" after Yom
Kippur and Passover.
This Mother's Day, honor the women in your life and bring
the spirit of celebration to the deserving mothers that
Jewish Family Service helps. Make your tribute donation
celebrating a mother, daughter, sister, aunt or friend in
your life and The Joy Project will send them a beautiful
recognition card. To share the joy, we will also send a
Mother's Day gift to a woman in need in our community.
