into the Dr. Martin Luther King
International board of preachers at
Morehouse College and was recent-
ly asked to preach at Morehouse
College.
"That is an amazing thing" he
said. "To me, it's incredibly mean-
ingful."
The rabbi also is committed to
and is unapologetic for Israel.
"When I hear people tell me
that Israel should apologize to the
Palestinians for acts of terrorism,
it makes me want to respond" said
Syme, who received the Louis D.
Brandeis award from the Zionist
Organization of America in 1999.
"My loyalty to Israel is uncondi-
tional."
Syme said that every day is
meaningful.
"Every day is different, for better
or for worse. And I have had the
blessing of being part of a congre-
gation in which so many people
have become friends to me, to Jill.
I look forward to this celebration
with great humility because the
congregation is making a statement
about the way it intends to treat its
rabbis. And that also is a high point
with me"
