Patio Enclosures specializes in sunrooms
that bring the outdoors inside year-round.

atio Enclosures was bought in late
2010 by Great Day Improvements LLC,
and the brand's quality still has superb
name recognition, says Steve Rosson, general
manager of the Novi branch that services
southeast Michigan.
"From humble beginnings in 1966, Patio
Enclosures grew to be the third-largest home
improvement company in the country by the
middle- to late-1990s," Rosson said. "This
was from doing sunrooms. We manufacture
and install our own product; we always have."
Although sunrooms, solariums and screen
rooms still account for 80 percent of Great
Day Improvements' business, Rosson said,
the company has expanded to replacement
windows, refinishing and remodeling.
"We've grown from being a specialty
company in patio enclosures to marketing
other services as well," Rosson said. "We
are taking advantage of our good name and

quality workmanship."
Still, Patio Enclosures has built 300,000
sunrooms nationwide since it started.
"Sunrooms are our most popular seller,"
Rosson said. Since moving into the Detroit
market in 1985, the company has installed
more than 8,000 sunroom projects here.
And trends have certainly changed since
1966, where sunrooms were mostly seasonal
enclosed rooms that could not be enjoyed
year-round, at least in Michigan.
Now, the company is building everything
from screened-in porches to heated
year-round rooms. "The sunroom line is
everything there is from enclosing an existing
porch with a slab and roof to building
everything from the ground up," Rosson said.
People are using their year-round rooms
for different purposes as well, including as
exercise rooms, playrooms for children and
grandchildren, game rooms and rooms for

pets, among others.
"Our claim to fame has always been
creating indoor-outdoor living space so
people can enjoy that activity year-round,"
Rosson said. "With the change in the
economy and its effect on home values,
people are staying put and fixing their homes
up like they always wanted to. They can add
rooms with air conditioning and heat to be
comfortable throughout the year."
Great Day Improvements also has
purchased Stanek Windows (including
siding and roofing) and Softwall Products (a
softwall finishing system that's an alternative
to drywall). By adding these products to
its arsenal, Patio Enclosures/Great Day
Improvements can accomplish any home
improvement project.
