hen it comes to honoring
the most senior mem-
bers of our Jewish com-
munity, the philosophy of planners
of the Bessie Spector Oldest Jewish
Americans Brunch is the more the
merrier.
Looking to invite every local,
Jewish individual who is 95 years
and older to be honored at the annu-
al event, a call for honorees is out.
The 11 a.m., Friday, May 3, brunch
will take place at Congregation
Shaarey Zedek in Southfield during
Older Americans Month.
Themed "The Greatest Generation:
We Honor Our Stars," it continues
the tradition of recognizing older
Americans and the value they bring
to our lives and communities.
"This event cherishes all older
adults in Metro Detroit aged 95 or
older for the valuable contributions
they make said Barbara Giles,
Jewish Senior Life associate direc-
tor. "These people are the building
blocks of our community?'
Honorees receive a complimentary
brunch and a certificate signed by
Gov. Rick Snyder. With 75 honor-
ees in attendance last year, and an
identified 150 individuals over age
95, the event is an important annual
milestone in many people's lives,
according to Giles.
To become an honoree, nominate
an individual who is 95 years old or
older, or for more information on the
