CSZ Religious School celebrates Passover with a chocolate seder.

0

n March 24, Donna Katz, a Hebrew specialist at
Congregation Shaarey Zedek in Southfield, led
religious school grades 4-6 in a chocolate Passover
seder using a special Haggadah she created herself.
Steps of the seder included Kadesh, blessing over the
chocolate milk; Karpas, eating green M&Ms; maror, eating
the bitter (bakers') chocolate; and korech, making the Hillel
"s'mores" out of Rice Krispies and kosher marshmallow fluff.
Most importantly, however, the children and their teach-

ers discussed the story of Passover as they engaged in their
sweet feast.
When asked why she thought the chocolate Seder would
be an effective teaching tool, Katz said, "This is such a fun
way to make the Passover symbols `stick(y)' with the kids.
Next year in the land of (chocolate) milk and honey!"
For Congregation Shaarey Zedek's religious school stu-
dents, their thirst for sweets was not only quenched, but
their thirst for knowledge and meaning as well.
