E

ach month, NEXTGen
Detroit, a department
of the Jewish
Federation of Metro
Detroit, partners with a different
synagogue to bring the community
together for a uniquely personal
NEXTGen Shabbat experience. On
March 22, the venue was Temple
Beth El, where about 90 young
professionals attended the third
Good Shabbos Detroit event.
The event began with services
led by Josh Nelson and Cantorial
Soloist Rachel Kalmowitz, and
then everyone met in the temple's
main sanctuary, where Jordon
Wertheimer welcomed the group
to Temple Beth El and talked
about the synagogue's history
and its building's background.
The temple's sanctuary was built
by Minoru Yamasaki, the same
architect who designed the Twin
Towers in New York City.
After the talk, the group enjoyed
a sumptuous strolling dinner
catered by Zack Sklar and Cutting
Edge Cuisine while listening to
wonderful background music
provided by Jake Barnaby and
Matt Arnold.
The group was invited for an
afterglow to Social Kitchen, Zack
Sklar's Birmingham restaurant,
where they gathered on the patio
to enjoy more delectable food to
round off a great evening.
The next Good Shabbos Detroit
is scheduled for April 12 at
Congregation Beth Shalom in Oak
Park. ❑
