He is the president and CEO of National Jewish Television, whose Sunday offerings are distributed live from New York City to more than 40 million households nationwide via satellite and cable television. Now he has teamed up with another Jewish cable network out of Los Angeles and the combined channel — called Jewish Life Television — is run- 0 ning 24 hours a day, Joel Levitch seven days a week. And while the new network can be seen in major markets like New York, Chicago, Philadelphia, Los Angeles and South Florida, it has yet to make its appearance in Detroit. Levitch recently paid a visit here in an effort to spread the word about JLTV, which is also live-streamed on the Internet at www.jltv.tv and is available on DirecTV channel 366. He is urging people to write or call Comcast asking for the Jewish channel to be added to the cable lineup here in Detroit. According to Comcast spokesperson Mary Beth Halprin, "The company does evaluate programming decisions on a regular basis. Decisions about the channel lineup are based upon a number of factors, including customer feedback requesting programming, a potential network's ability to offer unique programming that is cur- rently not offered by other networks today and contractual agreements that impact viewing areas, among others:' According to Levitch, program offerings on JLTV run the gamut of Jewish interests. The channel offers two hours a day of news programming, including a daily half-hour newscast in English from Channel One in Israel. On the entertainment side, there are con- certs of all stripes — from classical to Klezmer. Jewish nostalgia reigns as well. "Our special programs include docu- mentaries about Jewish history and the Holocaust. As an example, we are currently replaying the entire trial of Adolph Eichmann. There is program- ming for children as well, including Rehov Sum Sum, the classic series from Children's Television Workshop, featur- ing the Muppets teaching the Aleph- Bet and Jewish holidays:' he says. ❑
