Walk For Israel On May 5
To Also Include A 5K Run
The Metro Detroit community is
"Celebrating Israel" on Sunday, May 5,
with its annual Walk For Israel and also
an inaugural 5K Run. The run starts at
8 a.m. and the walk at 1 p.m., and both
will begin at Temple Shir Shalom, at
Walnut Lake at Orchard Lake roads in
West Bloomfield. There is a $36 entry
fee for the 5K Run and prizes will be
awarded to the top three fmishers. All
participants of the run will receive free
T-shirts, medals and refreshments.
Steve Pomerantz, associate direc-
tor of the Jewish Institute for National
Security Affairs and former assistant
director of the FBI, will offer a lecture
inside Temple Shir Shalom at 11 a.m.
Pomerantz is one of the foremost experts
in the world on terrorism.
A free kosher lunch will be provided
at noon for all attendees. There is no
cost for the walk, which begins at 1 p.m.
One lucky attendee will receive a
free round-trip ticket to Israel on El Al
Airlines.

Women's Bingo Event
To Benefit Michigan ORT
ORT America Michigan Region hosts
WINGO "Not your Bubby's Bingo!"
one night only on Wednesday, April
17, at Congregation Beth Ahm in West
Bloomfield.
After 20 years of WINGO (Women's
Bingo), it was felt it was the perfect time
to shake things up at this exclusive, all
women's event. But they warn: You will
laugh so hard that it will hurt the next
day. Reservations are required.
"This exclusive ladies' night out is not
to be missed. Recently, I went with my
girlfriends. We had the BEST time says
Forest Levy, event co-chair.
A Drag Queen bingo caller will per-
sonally be on hand to host a "tell-it-like-
it-is" Bingo night. Risque humor is to be
expected.
When Terri Steam was asked to co-
chair this event her response was, "If I
am on board, we have to agree to go big"
Tickets start at $50 for one bingo
card, dinner, entertainment and prizes.
Additional bingo cards can be pur-
chased upon registration. More than 400
women are expected to attend.
Proceeds will support ORT's global
network of schools and training pro-
grams locally and in more than 60 coun-
tries. The mission is to provide a quality
education and marketable job skills to
more than 300,000 students annually.
