S

hirley Felsenfeld, 82, of West
Bloomfield, died peacefully
after a long and courageous
battle with dementia on March 22,
2013.
She was born on
Jan. 29, 1931, to
Reuben and Ethel
Mogul in Detroit.
Shirley enjoyed a
happy childhood
and had a very
close relationship
Shirley
with her older sis-
Felsenfeld,
ter, Thelma. After
circa 1985
graduating from
Detroit Southeastern
High School, she attended Wayne
University in Detroit, graduating with a
B.A. in education in 1953.
At Wayne, she met the love of her
life, William Felsenfeld; and they
were married in 1952. Together they
raised a family in Southfield, hav-
ing three boys and eventually nine
grandchildren. Shirley was always
very supportive of her boys, a devoted
and loving wife, dedicated friend, and
wonderful mother and grandmother.
Shirley was a passionate and dedi-
cated educator, teaching first and sec-
ond grade in the Detroit Public School
System for 29 years. In addition,
she taught Sunday school at Temple
Emanu-El in Oak Park. After retiring,
Shirley joined her actor husband (and
retired teacher), Bill, and pursued
an acting career. Together, they per-
formed in many commercials, print
ads and industrial films. She and Bill
were fortunate to appear as extras in
several feature films that were shot in
the Detroit area. She truly cherished
spending the long hours of filming
with her husband, their marriage
growing stronger as time passed.
Mrs. Felsenfeld is survived by her
husband of 60 years, Bill; her best
friend(s), sister Thelma Lipsitt (and
husband, the late Harvey Lipsitt).
Remembering her forever are her
sons and daughters-in law, Mark and
Laurel Felsenfeld of Farmington Hills,
Dr. Robert Felsenfeld and Dr. Brenda
Weingarten of West Bloomfield,
and Dr. Joel and Sandi Felsenfeld of
Commerce Township; grandchildren,
Joshua, Elyssa, Matthew, Zachary,
Emily, Rachel, Aaron, Scott and Brett
Felsenfeld; many nieces, nephews,
great-nieces and great-nephews, and
many dear friends.
Interment was at Beth El Cemetery
in Livonia. Contributions may be
made to the Alzheimer's Association,
P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC
20090-6011; or to a charity of one's
choice. Arrangements by Dorfman
Chapel.
