Ann Arbor Plans
Noa Concert To Mar
Israel's 65th Year

T

he Jewish Federation of
Greater Ann Arbor will
present the Celebrate Israel
65th Birthday Concert with Noa at
7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 17, at the
Michigan Theater in Ann Arbor.
The concert will
feature guitarist Gil
Dor, percussionist
Gadi Seri and the
Yoed Nir String
Quartet. University
of Michigan Hillel's
a capella group, Kol
Ha'Kavod, will open
Noa
the show.
"For Israel's 65th
birthday, we wanted to do something
special; said Federation Executive
Director David Shtulman. "It's exciting
to offer a program that is out of the
ordinary to celebrate this significant
milestone
While Celebrate Israel honors
Israel's birthday, Ann Arbor commu-
nity members who share Israel's birth
year also will be recognized. Ron and
Lonnie Sussman were born in 1948,
less than two months after the State of
Israel was declared.
Lonnie remembers "feeling con-
nected and proud that we were the
same age. In my family, trees were
planted in honor of all life events
including birthdays, and somehow
that also strengthened the connec-
tion':
Elliot Eisenberg recalls when he
was 13, the Chicago Jewish Federation
held an Israel Independence Day
event honoring the bar mitzvah year
of Israel and boys, like him, who were
celebrating the same milestone.
"We all received a plaque:' he said.
"I kept it with me throughout my
adulthood, and it reminded me of this
special connection to Israel."
Noa and Dor collaborate frequently
with Arab and Palestinian artists,
enabling them to express musically
their belief in the power of commu-
nication and dialogue as a means of
promoting peace and understanding.
The concert will include selections
from Noa's recent album, The Israeli
Songbook.
Event sponsorship above $180
includes tickets and entry to an after-
glow with Noa. Tickets in a reserved
section are $65 (general admission
seating within the section). General
admission tickets are $36 for adults;
$12 for children and students.
